(ČIA, Mar 2) In February the consumer price index in the euro area increased by 0.9 % y/y. This growth was in line with analysts’ expectations; consumer prices had increased by one percent in January. According to Robin Koklar from Fio consumer prices in the euro area are under constant pressure as high unemployment (9.9 %) and weak economic growth (01 % in Q4 2009) do not allow companies to increase prices. Low inflation and set inflationary expectations allow the European Central Bank to keep interest rates low at one percent for a longer period of time. Analysts expect interest rates to increase only in 2011.
