Elcho is situated in the south region of Poland, 8 km south-west of Katowice. Its two modern units with total generating capacity of 220 MW produce combined power and heat by black-coal combustion. 100 % of the produced electricity is supplied to the operator of the Polish transmission system, PSE, heat is supplied to Katowice and surrounding areas.

CEZ Power Company has an 89 % share in Elcho. The share was bought from PSEG Energy Holding in May 2006.
