Kninicky Hydropower Plant under the Brno reservoir in Brno-Bystrc was designed as a peak source destined to overlay increased electrical energy consumption at morning and evening peaks. It was put into operation in 1941. It is equipped with a vertical turbo-generating set with a Kaplan turbine produced by the Storek firm. Although the turbine´s maximal usable flow is 22 m3/sec, it optimally operates at the maximum usable flow of 17-18 m3/sec. The installed capacity of the plant of 3,100 kW is reached at maximum head heights. The technological equipment, except 3 single phase dry-type transformers, is original.
