The ČEZ Group commissioned a modern photovoltaic power plant in Žabčice near Brno at the end of 2009. The facility is operated by ČEZ Renewable Sources.
Zabčice is situated between Židlochovice and Hrušovany near Brno – in the southernmost part of the Moravian region.
It is a location with the best conditions for the production of electricity from solar radiation in the Czech Republic. The average annual total global radiation exceeds 4 thousand MJ/m2 it also has the highest number of days of sunlight. The power plant with an installed output of 5.6 MW should, in the opinion of ČEZ Renewable Sources specialists, produce an annual amount of electricity covering the demand of approximately 1,500 households in south Moravia.
The construction itself was carried out in the second half of 2009. Carriers of polycrystalline panels are fixed to bearing piles fixed in the ground.
