(CIANEWS, Feb 6) Representatives of entrepreneurs, incl. the Czech Chamber of Commerce, failed to agree during the meeting with resigned Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) and resigned Minister of Transport Dan Ťok (ANO), held on February 6, 2018, on the cancelation of the road toll tender. The association requests the tender’s cancellation, as it argues that it is not conceptual and does not take into account the public’s interests. Entrepreneurs also criticise the plan to expand road tolls to additional 910km of 1st class roads after 2019. The Chamber argues that road tolls will harm small entrepreneurs, as they will raise their costs. The secondary effect will be the squeezing of transport to unpaid 2nd and 3rd class road sections, with negative consequences for municipalities and villages. The Chamber criticise the government also for not preparing a governmental strategy for the development of the road toll system, incl. tariff policy.
