Heating plants could in the future act as virtual batteries with great flexibility.

(ČIA) Heating plants could in the future act as virtual batteries with great flexibility. At a time of electricity surplus, they can transform it into heat, which is stored for later use, and during electricity shortages they can increase its production at the expense of heat generation. To do so they use the significant accumulation capacity of heating networks, which can also be strengthened by heat reservoirs. This was stated by the Czech Heating Association (TS ČR) in reaction to the draft of the National Action Plan for Smart Networks 2019 - 2030, which is now in the comments proceeding.
