Information on NPP Temelín 83 / 2010

Unit 1 is in operation at planned power level. Unit 2 will produce electricity till tomorrow 9 p.m. when it will be switched off from the national distribution grid and its planned outage with a length of 50 days will start.

In its course, 48 fuel assemblies will be replaced. It will be the last loading of Westinghouse fuel before the switch to TVEL fuel. For the first time, the TVEL fuel will be used in Summer during the Unit 1 refueling outage. Manipulations with the CASTOR container that will serve for storage of used fuel assemblies will be tested for the first time during the Unit 2 outage.  At these tests, the power plant personnel will verify the container’s transport routes. During the route test, no fuel assemblies will be inserted into the container. The discharge of filled container will occur during the Summer outage of Unit 1. The first CASTOR container, with which the above manipulations will be performed, arrived at Temelín in the end of the past week. The check of two low pressure turbine rotors will be among the most important activities in the non-nuclear part of the power plant.

Almost eight thousand activities are planned in the detailed outage schedule. In addition to 400 permanent staff workers, another 600 people from fifty supplier companies will take part in their provision.
