ÚJV Řež, a.s. was founded in 1955. Its original mission was to engage in basic research in nuclear physics, radiochemistry, and nuclear energy, and to produce radioisotopes and train researchers. The company's range of activities has extended over time. Presently, ÚJV delivers a wide range of expertise and services to nuclear power plant operators in the Czech Republic and other countries; supports central government institutions of the Czech Republic in strategic energy sector management and nuclear waste handling (Ministry of Trade and Industry); provides a sources of independent expertise for the Czech State Office for Nuclear Safety; ensures further development of the use of ionizing radiation and radiation services for basic and applied research, healthcare sector and the industry; provides research and services for radioactive waste disposal; produces radiopharmaceuticals; trains and further educates specialists and researchers; and provides many other services.
Apart from that, ÚJV is also involved in non-nuclear fields of activity, such as in classic energy, chemical industry, and environment protection. ÚJV has been successful in developing and diversifying its international cooperation relations. A primary link is our cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. When the Czech Republic joined the OECD in 1995, ÚJV's international activities extended with intensive contacts to the NEA/OECD, where ÚJV is actively involved in most working groups, in particular in the CSNI.
