More heat for citizens of Katowice and Siemianowice Śląskie

The Polish Chorzów ELCHO power plant, belonging to the CEZ Group, the most modern and environmentally friendly power and heat producer in Silesia, is going to supply more heat to the citizens of Katowice and Siemianowic Śląskich.

Chorzów ELCHO Sp. z o.o and the local heat distributor, Tauron Ciepło S.A., made an agreement in Katowice yesterday that grants the end users connected to the Tauron Cieplo system a supply of heat generated in the ELCHO power plant. ELCHO will thus increase environmental heat production and sale from the existing 320 MWt to 490 MWt.

Based on the contract, ELCHO will newly supply 170 MWt of heat over a period of 10 years to the end users in Katowice and Siemianowic Śląskich. A total of 60 MWt will be supplied to Siemianowic Śląskich from 1 October 2014 and 110 MWt to Katowice with effect from 1 October 2015.

“One of the CEZ Group’s strategic business objectives is to develop the heat market both in the Czech Republic and in the locations of our foreign assets. Therefore, we are happy to be able to launch a project in Silesia, Poland, which will bring benefits not only to ELCHO and Tauron Cieplo but which also promotes the effort to reduce emissions in the region. Moreover, it increases the comfort and security of supply to the inhabitants of the region,” said Tomáš Pleskač, Member of the ČEZ Board of Directors and Director of Distribution and Foreign Affairs Division Director, when describing the project benefits.
