Temelín Unit 2 is producing electricity again

Yesterday evening, the operating personnel connected the second Temelín unit to the transmission system. Before Easter, the power engineers planned to disconnect the unit from the transmission system for five days to adjust the turbine mounting.

Technicians made several minor adjustments to the settings of the low-pressure parts and bearing racks. The purpose of the work was to avoid any unplanned disconnections during the following approximately one-year operation.

To carry out the work, the power engineers had to cool the turbine, but the reactor was not cooled and kept in a so-called hot state. The unit resumed electricity production at fifty percent reactor power last night and has been operating at full power since last night.

Since the beginning of the year, the Temelín power plant has produced 5.6 terawatt hours of electricity. Together with Dukovany, these are sources that produce the largest amount of clean electricity and thus contribute significantly to ČEZ Group's emission-free production. Annually, approximately two tens of millions of tons of CO2 have not been released into the atmosphere thanks to nuclear power plants.
