Second Best Year. ČEZ Increased Production of Emission-free Electricity from the Sun by 12 Percent Last Year

*ČEZ increased production from photovoltaic sources by 12% to 136 GWh, which is the consumption of 40,000 households

*In the Czech Republic, ČEZ has historically produced 1.3 m MWh of emission-free energy

*The company wants to capitalise on 25 years of experience with photovoltaic plant operation in new construction in the Czech Republic

2022 was a good year for production in photovoltaic power plants operated by ČEZ Obnovitelné zdroje, which added over 14,000 MWh year-on-year and achieved the second best result ever. Only 2018 was better. The nearly 136,000 MWh of emission-free electricity produced last year covers the annual consumption of about 40,000 Czech households. ČEZ photovoltaic plants located in six regions of the Czech Republic operate reliably thanks to high-quality maintenance, timely fault detection and excellent weather forecasting.

After preliminary assessment ČEZ has identified two preferred construction sites for small modular reactors, in addition to the Temelín pilot location, in Dětmarovice and Tušimice

ČEZ has tentatively identified two preferred sites for the second and third small modular reactors (SMRs). After the first SMR project at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant site, SMRs could also be built in Dětmarovice and Tušimice. That is on the sites of current coal-fired power plants, which are being transformed into emission-free sites. As part of Vision 2030, ČEZ Group has committed itself to preparing the construction of small modular reactors with a total capacity of over 1,000 MW after 2040. However, small modular reactors could have been built at these sites as early as the second half of the 1930s. The main purpose of the SMR construction is to ensure a long-term secure supply of stable emission-free energy.

ČEZ Uses Modern 3D Technologies including Metal 3D Printing in Nuclear and Hydroelectric Power Plants. The New Idea Saves Time and Money

ČEZ uses 3D technology models, including modern 3D printing methods, in cooperation with ŠKODA JS for both Czech nuclear power plants and in the hydropower industry. The innovative process scores points when missing equipment is no longer in production, is not available on the market or has excessively long lead times. During the first year, the deployment of 3D parts contributed to reduced downtime and increased power plant production - without affecting the safe supply of electricity. During this period, power engineers produced a total of 4,159 parts from both plastics and metal on a 3D printer. This is another step towards ensuring energy independence and at least 60 years of the operation of nuclear power plants and other parts of the critical energy infrastructure.

Czech Nuclear Power Plants Comply with International Environmental Protection Standards

The Temelin and Dukovany nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic meet the requirements of international environmental protection standards. Such is the main conclusion of a recertification audit conducted by the international company Det Norske Veritas. This prestigious ecological certificate for environmental management has been held by the Temelin power plant without interruption since 2004, and by the Dukovany plant since 2001.
