The hydropower system called for short Reşita is located in Caras Severin Region near the City of Reşita (ca. 30 km from the Serbian border). It comprises 4 dam reservoirs and 4 small hydro-electric power plants. CEZ Romania SA became the owner of these production facilities at the end of 2010 through an acquisition of a 100% share in TMK Hydroenergy Power SRL.
The total installed power of the system is 22 MW.
- 4 dam reservoirs (Trei Ape, Gozna, Valiug, Secu)
- 4 small hydro-electric power plants (Crainicel I – installed power 8380 kW, Crainicel II - installed power 3750 kW, Grebla - installed power 5500 kW, Breazova - installed power 370 kW).
After nearly two years of extensively upgrading the Resita water power plant system on the Barzava Superioara river, in December 2013 the project has come to a successful end. Due to the investment of EUR 30 million, the four hydropower plants now generate electricity with 20% higher efficiency, thus producing one fifth more electricity from the same amount of water.
The entire project entered the preparation phase two years ago, and the actual upgrade work commenced in July 2012. The new technology installed at the four hydropower plants (Grebla, Crăinicel I, Crăinicel II and Breazova) meets high performance criteria and includes turbines, generators, GIS module transformers and automatic water-cleaning equipment. The feeding channels and the 35 kV terrestrial power line, which is used to connect the power plants to the 110 kV distribution system, have also been repaired.
After that, the power plants will naturally go on meeting the qualification criteria for drawing from the subsidies for electricity production from renewable resources in accordance with the applicable Romanian legislation.
