ČEZ Distribuce connected 17,967 photovoltaic power plants with an installed capacity of 491.6 MW last year

"We are continuously implementing investment projects to develop, renew and strengthen the distribution system so that we are able to fulfil our customers’ connection requests. Last year, total investments were CZK 19.2 billion, of which CZK 8.6 billion went towards necessary modifications to strengthen the network due to the increased number of applications to connect power plants,” said Martin Zmelík, CEO of ČEZ Distribuce.

For comparison, in 2024, ČEZ Distribuce engineers connected 28,853 PV plants with an installed capacity of 630.7 MW to the grid; in 2023 they connected 52,109 PV plants with an installed capacity of 605.5 MW.  

Central Bohemian Region still showing greatest interest in PV plants

In terms of regional distribution, last year engineers connected the most solar power plants in the Central Bohemian Region, a total of 4,901 units with an installed capacity of 102.3 MW. The Moravian-Silesian Region came in second place in the notional solar league table with 2,650 photovoltaic power plants and an installed capacity of 58.4 MW. Bronze went to the Ústí nad Labem Region, where engineers connected 1,831 photovoltaic power plants with an installed capacity of 71 MW to the grid. See the table for other regions.

Wind turbines, heat pumps, heating and power plants

Last year, engineers connected 5 wind turbines with an installed electrical capacity of 13,235 kWe to the ČEZ Distribuce grid. There was also interest in heat pumps. ČEZ Distribuce connected 11,884 heat pumps with a heat output of 185 MWt and an electrical output of 62 MWe to the network in 2025. Engineers connected 17 heating and power plants to the distribution network with an electrical output of 22.7 MWe last year.

Storage

In connection with the implementation of the LEX RES III Act, the acceptance of applications for standalone battery storage repositories started at 8 a.m. on 19 September 2025.

By the end of 2025, ČEZ Distribuce had received 6,384 connection applications with a total battery capacity of 351 GWh and a total battery output of 170 GW. In 59% of the cases, the applications are directed to the high voltage level and in 38% of the cases to the very high voltage level.

ČEZ Distribuce plans to invest CZK 18.5 billion in the renewal, development, strengthening, automation and digitalisation of the distribution grid in 2026.

As a part of the evaluation of the available capacity for connecting generating plants, customer points and now storage facilities, overview maps of areas were created, providing an overview of available capacity and connection options at all voltage levels.
