CEZ Group completes the acquisition of Gas Distribution, a company operating the gas distribution network in Southern Bohemia and parts of the Vysočina Region

CEZ Group has completed the acquisition from E.ON of a 100% stake in Gas Distribution s.r.o., the operator of the gas distribution network in the South Bohemian Region and in parts of the Vysočina Region. Through its subsidiary GasNet, CEZ is thus expanding its gas distribution network and with the exception of Prague will now distribute gas throughout the Czech Republic. The gas distribution network plays a major role in the transformation of the Czech district heating business and its transition from coal-based energy to natural gas and subsequently to hydrogen.

“Gas will be a crucial energy medium in ensuring the country’s energy security in the future. It will play a major role in the modernisation of the district heating sector as well as in securing a stable supply of electricity, once coal-burning power plants are decommissioned. Its acquisition of Gas Distribution further strengthens CEZ’s position in the gas infrastructure, which, aside from the distributor GasNet, also includes capacity in existing and newly built LNT terminals and gas and combined-cycle electricity and heat generation plants,” said Daniel Beneš, Chairman of the Board and CEO of CEZ.

Gas Distribution manages a network of 4,600 kilometres of gas pipelines, with a total of 111,000 delivery points. It has approximately 120 employees and, in 2024, it distributed 2.8 TWh of gas. The GasNet Group manages a network of 65,000 kilometres of gas pipelines and, with over 2,200 employees, it serves approximately 2.2 million delivery points. Last year, it distributed more than 63 TWh of gas.

“I am pleased that the acquisition of Gas Distribution has been brought to a successful completion and that we can now focus on integrating the company and its employees into GasNet. Gas Distribution has a team of qualified professionals and specialists, whose expertise we will need in the modernisation of the Czech energy sector,” said Andrzej Martynek, CEO of GasNet.

Before Gas Distribution becomes a fully integrated part of the GasNet Group, it will operate as a separate company under its existing brand for a transitional period. At this stage, nothing changes for its customers or business partners – all contracts, contacts, business terms and conditions, as well as the company’s identification and payment details remain unchanged. The completion of the full integration of Gas Distribution into the GasNet Group is expected in 2027.
