Energy Policy

In order to establish a framework for energy management and to support the mission and business objectives of the CEZ Group, the Board of Directors of ČEZ, a.s., has approved the following Energy Policy.

CEZ Group's commitments to energy savings provide a framework for managing and using energy efficiently by improving energy efficiency, reducing energy intensity, and increasing the share of electricity and heat production from emission-free and renewable sources. The fulfilment of these commitments is aimed at achieving the goal of reducing the Emission Intensity and Energy Intensity.

We are committed to:

  • continuously reducing energy intensity and increasing the energy efficiency of production facilities and buildings, taking into account operational, technical, economic, and environmental parameters,
  • the long‑term improvement of energy efficiency in electricity and heat generation, wherever feasible and cost‑effective, through the prudent allocation of financial resources for the implementation of energy‑saving measures,
  • adopting measures aimed at the continual improvement of energy management, with particular focus on monitoring and evaluating energy consumption,
  • ensuring the availability and provision of information and resources necessary to achieve energy objectives and targets,
  • complying with all applicable legal and other requirements related to energy use and consumption across the CEZ Group,
  • establishing an effective energy management system with clearly defined responsibilities and authorities for its maintenance and continuous improvement,
  • improving the level of energy management in line with the company’s strategic objectives and with due regard to corporate social responsibility,
  • promoting the procurement of energy‑efficient products and services, as well as initiatives aimed at reducing energy intensity and improving energy efficiency,
  • enforcing the principles of efficient energy use and environmental protection among contractual partners and tenants of company‑owned buildings,
  • educating employees in the field of energy management and supporting the training of contractual partners in energy management practices.

Within the energy management policy, a system for monitoring and evaluating biomass sustainability criteria and related greenhouse gas emission savings has been established.

This system ensures systematic monitoring and assessment of the compliance of the biomass used with sustainability criteria set by applicable legislation. At the same time, it enables the monitoring of achieved greenhouse gas emission savings associated with its use.

The objective is to ensure transparent and responsible use of biomass as an energy source in line with sustainability principles and to contribute to minimizing environmental impacts associated with energy production.

Environmental Policy

The Environmental Policy declares CEZ Group's approach to environmental protection. The policy includes commitments to reduce the impact of CEZ Group's activities:

  • On climate change, mainly by increasing energy efficiency, increasing the share of electricity and heat production from emission-free and renewable sources, and adapting the strategy and operation of production sources to actual and expected climate changes.
  • Related to air, water and land pollution, in particular by preventing and reducing our emissions. We are actively remedying the consequences of our actions. We regenerate ecosystems where pollution has occurred. We monitor scientific progress in identifying chemicals of concern and of particular concern and actively seek substitutes for these substances.
  • Through sustainable water use. We use water resources, including their energy potential, as efficiently as possible. We are improving the efficiency of our production technologies. We prevent water pollution as a result of our activities. We treat polluted wastewater to prevent deterioration of water bodies and aquatic ecosystems.
  • Minimising the impact of our activities on ecosystems and their biodiversity. We take sustainable development principles and biodiversity considerations into account in our strategy and planning. We assess the impacts of our activities on biodiversity. We put in place measures to mitigate these impacts, particularly in and around biodiversity-sensitive areas.
  • Efficient use of resources, application of circular economy principles. We are committed to the sustainable sourcing of raw materials and their efficient use in our business activities. Our strategies include reducing the use of primary resources in the production of electricity and heat. We are increasing the use of renewable resources in the production of electricity and heat, thereby reducing the depletion of non-renewable resources. Our strategy and business model take into account product and service life cycle principles and circular economy principles. We respect the waste hierarchy. Through waste prevention activities, recycling and reuse, we contribute to minimising waste production and saving raw materials. 

The same approach to environmental protection is required of CEZ Group suppliers under the Sustainable Supply Chain Policy. The main objective of this policy is to implement a responsible approach to sustainability and due diligence process.
