CEZ modernises hydroelectric power plants, investing more than CZK 5 billion. Upgraded facilities operate more efficiently at lower river levels.
*CEZ has invested more than CZK 5 billion in the modernisation of hydroelectric power plants
*More than 20 power plants and over 40 generating units have undergone modernisation
*Modernised facilities are 5-10% more efficient and require less water to generate electricity
*The modernisation of the Orlík, Štěchovice and Střekov power plants is currently in preparation
CEZ is preparing its hydroelectric power plants across the Czech Republic for drier years and operation at lower river levels through a series of modernisation projects. These upgrades, which are being carried out across all types of hydroelectric facilities, are aimed at extending their service life by several more decades, increasing reliability, and ensuring safer and more economical operation. To date, the extensive refurbishment programme has required investments of more than CZK 5 billion. Compared with plants that originally entered service at various stages of the 20th century, the Czech energy sector now benefits from facilities in optimal condition that are capable of remaining in operation even during the driest months of the year.
