Technicians from ÚJV Řež installed exactly 168 special sensors on the containments (protective buildings around the reactors) at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. This allows energy engineers to monitor the condition of the buildings, which form a key protective barrier between the reactors and the environment, online. The modification is part of a program to renovate the facility and prepare the Temelín power plant for more than 60 years of operation. The modernization cost CEZ tens of millions of crowns. ÚJV Řež's Integrity and Technical Engineering Division is involved in increasing the safety and service life of nuclear power plants, performing calculations, tests, and analyses of material properties, operational inspections of equipment, and their qualification for nuclear operations, including aging management programs. Since the beginning of the year, the Temelín power plant has produced 13.7 terawatt-hours of electricity. Together with Dukovany, these are the sources that produce the largest amount of clean electricity and thus contribute significantly to the emission-free production of the ČEZ Group. Thanks to nuclear power plants, approximately 20 million tons of CO2 are not released into the atmosphere each year.
