Small modular reactors are one of the cornerstones of CEZ’s long-term strategy and the future of modern energy in the Czech Republic. They represent a major opportunity for industry, enabling Czech companies to become part of the global Rolls-Royce SMR supply chain and contribute components for SMR projects worldwide. The first small modular reactor in the Czech Republic is planned for Temelín, and following several milestones achieved this year, the project is now moving into its next phase.

CEZ has submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documentation to the Ministry of the Environment, one of the key permitting processes for the project. The South Bohemian project will be the second Rolls-Royce SMR reactor to be built, following the first one at the established nuclear site of Wylfa in the United Kingdom.
