Datteln
At the end of 2024, the 11.4 MW Datteln wind farm started generating clean electricity. The wind farm, located north of Dortmund in North Rhine-Westphalia, consists of two turbines with a rotor diameter of 149 m, mounted on 164 m high towers. It will produce an average of 24.8 GWh of electricity per year, covering the annual consumption of around 8,200 households.
The most challenging part of the project was completing the external power supply. It was necessary to overcome urban areas with regard to local infrastructure, railway lines, high-voltage power lines, several bodies of water and a future road. In addition, two World War II aerial bombs had to be retrieved and disposed of.
